Next Meeting - Saturday, September 11, 2010 at The
Clarion Inn (formerly the Ramada Inn) at 1200 SE Federal Highway, Stuart, FL. The meeting will begin at 10:00 A.M.
The presenters will form
a panel for discussion/explanation of the DREAM Act and Students Working for
Equal (Education) Rights (for undocumented minorities). The DREAM
Act (Development, Relief and Alien Minors Act) addresses education for
undocumented youth. This particular act is bipartisan and is sponsored
by Senator Orin Hatch (R-UT) and Senator Richard Orbin (D-Ill).
Convention News - As you know, our annual convention will be held Sept. 23-26th at the PGA Village in Port St. Lucie. We are well into the final plans for the convention which
our district is hosting. Thursday
night will feature a
welcoming party and kick-off. The business meeting will begin on Friday, the 24th and end with the banquet on Saturday, the 25th. There will be interesting
political speakers at the luncheons of Friday and Saturday as well as the
evening dinners. Sunday, the 26th, involves meetings of the State
officers.
Martin County is responsible for the following: the auction, registration, announcing
of the banners, Banner carriers for our club will be
Daisy Carter and Gloria McHardy. Marie Argana is the treasurer
for the district and responsible therefore for the financial management of the
convention. Marilyn Mordes will help with the auction. Barbara Robert
will be in charge of the registration table and Catherine Hilton, Daisy Carter, Gloria McHardy, Eula Clarke,
Cheryl Nagel, and Linda Codrington will help with the registration.
Convention delegates are Barbara Robert, Marie Argana, Eula Clarke,
Daisy Carter, Gloria McHardy with alternate Marilyn Mordes. You may

Everyone is welcome to
attend.
October Meeting - We have invited a speaker from the League of Women's Voters to
present issues regarding amendments which will be on the November ballot.
Fund Raisers - We have two fund raisers this year at The Lyric Theatre. We
have been able to secure tickets at a cost to our members and guests/supporters
at just above $5.00 of the box office price. Our club will profit $15.00
per ticket and we are obligated to sell 50 tickets to each show.
This will be the only fund-raising activity this year and so hope that all will
participate. They are really good Holiday gifts!
