Tuesday September 12th
5:30 pm, 2006 Meeting
Stuart Woman’s Club
729 East Ocean Blvd.
Stuart, FL 34996
5:30 p.m. Social
6:00 p.m. General Meeting
On Tuesday, September 5th Democrats will have the great opportunity to stand tall and choose between two outstanding candidates for Florida’s new (thank goodness) governor; State Senator Rod Smith or Congressman Jim Davis. Either candidate will serve our state proudly, just be sure and VOTE on September 5th.
Joining us on Tuesday, September 12th
will be Susan Pynchon, executive director of the Florida Fair Elections Coalition who will be speaking on "Voting, Validation and the Paper Trail".
“Women’s Equality Day” is August 26th and, once again, we will honor the 1920 passage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote. Please join us on Friday, August 25th, as we honor Stuart’s own suffragist Cynthia Haney at Haney Circle in downtown Stuart. Our suffragist Brigade will be participating with the Democratic Club and the DEC at the “Dancin in the Streets” festival. It took 72 years for women to gain the right to vote, it doesn’t seem possible that any woman would not be first in line on Election Day. Help us to remind women of our heritage by volunteering for the August 25th event. Please call Martha Bennett, special events coordinator, at (772) 349-4654 or email inkreator@aol.com.
Next month begins our membership drive. Can you believe nearly a year has passed since we first welcomed “Eleanor Roosevelt” to the first meeting of the Democratic Women’s Club of Martin County? Please give some thought on how we can best operate a membership drive so we can further introduce ourselves into the community. Our membership needs to grow, diversify and continue to make a difference in Martin County.
A reminder the Democratic Women’s Club of Florida, Inc., annual convention, it’s 50th, on September 14th -17th at Sandestin Golf and Resort in Destin, FL.
Martin County is privileged to have such distinguished community advocates living here, and I urge you to bring SEVERAL friends and join us. With the price of gas climbing each day, I encourage you to car pool to the meeting and if you need a ride, please call or e-mail me and I will do my best to find someone to share in the ride.
June begins hurricane season – I hope it goes as the Republican wind…..rapidly diminishing!!
