Mahoney
Earns Early AFL-CIO Endorsement
Campaign
continues to gain momentum
Venus, FL- Tim Mahoney,
candidate for Florida’s
16th Congressional District, announced today that his candidacy has
received the early endorsement of the Florida AFL-CIO. This makes him only the
second candidate for office to receive such an endorsement.
“I am honored to win the AFL-CIO’s endorsement,” said
Mahoney. “For too long working families in this district have not had a
representative fighting for them. They know that as their Congressman, I am
committed to bringing jobs with a future not just to the coasts but to
communities in Okeechobee, Highlands, Hendry
and Glades counties.”
An example of a lapse in leadership occurred just recently when
Congressman Foley cast the deciding vote for the Central American Free Trade
Agreement (CAFTA), a treaty that will cost hundreds sugar industry jobs in
Glades and Hendry counties, after he promised them he would vote no.
“When Tom DeLay needed a win for the President, he went to Mark Foley his
“yes” man and got the deciding vote.” said Mahoney.
The Florida AFL-CIO represents approximately 500,000 members across the
state.
“The Florida AFL-CIO is proud to endorse Tim Mahoney for Congress
because we are confident that he will bring much needed vision, commitment and
leadership to Florida’s
Congressional delgation,” Cindy Hall President of Florida AFL-CIO
stated. “Too many of our Representatives in Congress have become
rubber stamps for the corporate cronies that make up the House leadership. The
people of the 16th District deserve a representative who will stand
up for them and their families. Tim Mahoney will be that Representative.”
The early and significant AFL-CIO endorsement is another key indicator
of the Mahoney campaigns early strength – a campaign that will report
over $211,000 in the bank for the filing period just ended December 31, and has
the backing of Democratic Congressional Campaign Chairman Rahm Emanuel.
“People from all across the community are standing with our
campaign shoulder to shoulder because it is time to clean up the culture of
cronyism and corruption in Washington
DC. It is time give a voice to
ordinary Americans who expect results not rhetoric from their elected
leaders,” added Mahoney.
